Google Open-Sources TorchTPU, Bringing Native PyTorch to Its AI Chips

At PyTorchConf 2026, Google released TorchTPU, letting developers train and serve models on TPUs using vLLM, SGLang, Hugging Face, and Ray without leaving the PyTorch ecosystem.

Google is attacking the single biggest barrier to TPU adoption: software friction. At PyTorchConf 2026, Google Cloud announced that "native PyTorch on TPUs is here—and TorchTPU is officially open source." The pitch is aimed squarely at developers who have standardized on the PyTorch stack: the tooling supports vLLM, SGLang, LLM-D, TorchTitan, Hugging Face, and Ray out of the box.
