Developers: Your Agent Isn't Expensive Because the Model Is — It's Acting on Bad Memory

Practitioners are converging on a diagnosis for runaway agent costs: the problem isn't token prices, it's agents repeatedly acting on wrong or stale memory.

A pointed diagnosis is circulating among developers running agents in production. 'Your agent isn't expensive because the model is expensive,' wrote @luyi_luo. 'It's expensive because it keeps acting on wrong memory.' The prescription: fix the memory first, before touching anything else. It is a reframing of the cost problem away from per-token pricing and toward the compounding waste of an agent that repeatedly makes decisions on bad state.
