Builders Are Rebuilding Coding Agents to Put Humans (and Python) Back in Charge

A wave of tools is responding to the 'AI broke my repo' problem by narrowing how much control the model actually gets.

As coding agents hit production, a countercurrent is forming around reliability. Paul Clark described building a tool that inverts the usual arrangement: "Most AI coding tools let the model run the show. I'm building one where Python runs the workflow and AI does the engineering." The distinction matters — deterministic orchestration in code, with the model confined to the parts where judgment is actually needed.
