For the past year, the AI industry has sold agents on the strength of the demo. This week, three independent data points landed on the same day to puncture that narrative — and the picture they paint is remarkably consistent.

According to @AIToolsTested, 81% of AI agent pilots never reach real production. More damning is the accuracy collapse: programs that hit 80%-plus accuracy in controlled pilot testing lose between 12 and 19 percentage points once actual users start interacting with them. That is the difference between a system that feels magical in a boardroom and one that quietly fails a fifth of its real-world tasks.
