Anthropic's Claude Tag Puts an Agent on the Org Chart — Inside Slack, As a Teammate

Anthropic launched Claude Tag, embedding persistent, context-aware Claude agents directly into Slack as named team members. Andrej Karpathy called it 'a new paradigm,' and the framing — not the feature list — is what matters.

Anthropic introduced Claude Tag on Tuesday, a product that places Claude inside Slack not as a bot you summon but as a persistent team member that joins channels, carries context, and operates with tools. The company's own announcement — which drew roughly 17,000 likes within hours — framed it plainly: 'In Slack, Claude joins as a team member.' That phrasing is doing a lot of work, and it appears to be deliberate.

The most consequential reaction came from Andrej Karpathy, who described it as a new paradigm for interacting with Claude that is 'significantly more inline with all the other human activity org-wide.' His read: Claude 'basically joins the team in a seamless way' rather than living in a separate app that people consciously switch into. For a figure who has spent the past two years narrating the shape of LLM tooling, calling this a paradigm shift is not a throwaway compliment.
