Santander Open-Sources 11 AI Governance Repos, Offering a Blueprint for Regulated Industries

The banking giant released auto-guardrails, discrimination testing frameworks, and stressed-dataset tools under Apache 2.0 — a rare case of a regulated institution leading on transparent AI governance rather than following.

Santander, one of Europe's largest banks, has open-sourced 11 repositories covering AI governance, automated guardrails, discrimination testing, and adversarial dataset generation. As @sytaylor reported, the release includes tools called autoguardrails (automated safety checks for model outputs), mutatis-mutandis (systematic discrimination testing by varying protected attributes), and stressed-datasets (generating edge-case data to probe model robustness). All are released under the Apache 2.0 license.
