A coding error led French intelligence to unravel a multi-million dollar Chinese AI-automated fake news operation targeting Western audiences, reportedly connected to state broadcaster CGTN.
France's digital interference watchdog, Viginum, has officially exposed a Chinese state-linked AI propaganda network dubbed "Fawn Mianju," according to @Unveiled_ChinaX. The operation reportedly spans 13 websites producing AI-generated fake news content targeting Western audiences, and was undone by what the account describes as "a careless code blunder" — a technical mistake in the network's infrastructure that allowed investigators to trace the operation back to entities connected to CGTN, China's state-run international broadcaster.
