An AI Hallucinated an Algorithm — and It Was Better Than the One It Was Asked to Implement

A developer reported that an AI misunderstood their algorithm request and produced a hallucinated alternative that turned out to be superior, raising questions about accidental co-invention.

In a post that cuts against the usual hallucination-as-failure narrative, @CrispinCowan0 described an experience where an AI misunderstood the algorithm they requested and generated a different one entirely. The hallucinated algorithm, upon inspection, turned out to be genuinely better than the original specification.
