OpenAI's GPT-Image-2 Leaks on Arena with 'Superior World Knowledge'

An unreleased OpenAI image model called GPT-Image-2 has been spotted on evaluation platforms under the codename maskingtape-alpha, reportedly outperforming current top models in text rendering and world knowledge.

OpenAI's next image generation model appears to have leaked before any official announcement. As @levelsio reported, a model identified as GPT-Image-2 surfaced on Arena under the codename "maskingtape-alpha," with multiple example images suggesting significant improvements in text rendering accuracy and contextual world knowledge — two areas where current image models consistently struggle.
