The scale of the expansion is striking even by Silicon Valley standards. Adding 3,500 employees in roughly nine months means OpenAI would need to hire at a pace of nearly 400 people per month — a logistical and cultural challenge that has historically tripped up fast-growing tech companies. For context, Anthropic and Google DeepMind have also been on hiring tears, but neither has publicly signaled a near-doubling in a single calendar year.
