xAI's Grok Imagine is generating buzz for a new animation capability that renders variable-speed motion within a single sequence, drawing serious creative experimentation.

Grok Imagine, xAI's generative media tool, is attracting creative users with a capability that's technically subtle but artistically significant: the ability to animate subjects at two different speeds within the same six-second sequence. As @dvorahfr demonstrated with a futuristic samurai animation, the tool can render a character moving at one tempo while the background or secondary elements move at another — a technique called speed ramping that's a staple of professional video editing but has been difficult to achieve in generative AI.
